Who Needs a Light? The Most Unexpected Products That Use Light Absorbing Panels

Whenever we talk about light absorbing panels, the ordinary mind only thinks of the solar panels. As the world is in pursuit to tap green energy and conserve, solar panels have become the go to alternative source of energy.

Solar energy is effective, good-performance, cost-effective, and leaves a long-lasting positive impact on the environment.

However, there are other materials, although uncommon, that absorb the light and can be used across different industries.

One of the dealers of light absorbing materials is the Acktar Light Absorbing Panels. The optical systems have a black material that absorbs the light, the stray light absorber, and the low power laser beam dumps.

The Aktar panels are integrated using an optical mount that is compatible. Or, by using optional panels with lower outgassing adhesive back.

The materials that use the light absorbing panels are:

1.Hexa Black

This light absorbing panel has a wide-band absorption at grazing angles of up to 88 degrees. The operating temperature of the material is -50°C to 250°C and 150°C with an adhesive back.

The product has a high abrasion resistance and low and outgassing adhesive sticker which makes it easier to attach on surfaces. Also, it has low reflectance at grazing angles at 88° AOI.

2.The Metal Velvet and Spectral Black

Other products that use light absorption panels are the spectral black and metal velvet. Both have thin thickness coatings with much lower hemispherical reflectance but a high emissivity.

The products have an operating temperature ranging from -50°C to 150°C. They have the fixing holes optimal feature and come in a wide range of both customized options and standard sizes.

Also, they have a low outgassing adhesive sticker for easy mounting on the surfaces. They come in flexible sheets which are not mounted on the aluminum plate.

  1. Near-Perfect Broadband Absorber

Another product that uses light absorbing panels is the Transparent window coatings developed in San Diego. The material absorbs up to 87 percent of near-infrared lights.

It can absorb the light from any angle. In addition, it can be theoretically adjusted to allow it to absorb certain light at a certain wavelength, while allowing the rest to pass through.

Most materials that are good at absorbing the light, are bulky and can easily break. But, they cannot be customized to absorb light of a particular wavelength. However, this one allows for cooling and blocking infrared radiation. Also, it can block the normal light as well as radio waves that transmit radio and television programs.

The light absorbing panels can be used in areas such as in space exploration, in defense, displays, sensing and imaging, remote sensing targets, semiconductor equipment manufacturing, and semiconductor wafer level. Other areas where the light absorbing panels are useful are in Optical Instrumentation and laser technologies, in the medical optics, automotive optics, in bio analytics, in wearables such as watches and jewelries, in capacitors for high-performance electrodes, and in solar energy such as thermal solar collectors.
